“Four Cheese High”

It is a tradition at ABACUS that loudspeakers impress with their grown-up sound despite their compact dimensions. With the C-Box 3 (and earlier the C-Box 2) this is always particularly clear. This is probably also the reason why the small loudspeaker – actually purchased for the desk – often have to be used for comparisons with the main system and not infrequently question it.

Even though the mini box was used here and there as a full-fledged system, the desire for a little more was often expressed – just so much more that it can also provide sound for a small living room. This was reason enough to simply scale up the virtues of the C-Box 3 by a few percent and develop the C-Box 4 based on the same electronics and very similar speaker drivers. The result was hardly less astonishing than the first C-Box 2 prototypes, but once again it sounded unexpectedly “big”, what the small boxes gave off.

In order to be as flexible in placement as the “3s”, the C-Box 4 was also threaded in the base, but with a 3/8″ thread due to its heavier weight, so that it fits on all common microphone stands. Here, the ABACUS portfolio was supplemented accordingly with high-quality solutions from König & Meyer, which are known for their high standards in studio and stage technology.

C-Box 4 is available for different power lines. It comes with a Euro-plug (plug-Typ C (CEE 7/16).

C-Box 4 in test at Technic3D in October 2020

Review of the ABACUS C-Box 4 active speakers at Technic3D:

“”If you are looking for a versatile compact speaker with a particularly powerful sound, the ABACUS C-Box 4 is the right choice. The small active speaker shows the best workmanship and is already equipped with the innovative DOLIFET amplifier technology, which gives the closed 3.7 liter housing a lower cut-off frequency of fabulous 32 Hz.”

C-Box 4 in Pitchforks “13 Best Bookshelf Speakers”

“Abacus is a boutique German company producing unfussy, EQ-control speakers that can deliver immense bass response and detailed highs. Electroacoustics artist and mastering engineer Stephan Mathieu, who also runs Germany’s Schwebung Mastering, recommends the compact C-Box 4 , which performs with the depth and range of a speaker twice its size, and anything from the Cortex series.”

C-Box 4 Review von Solidtrax auf Gearslutz im August 2019

Rating: 4.75/5.

“We wanted to test the C-Box 4 because we where curious if a speaker this compact could really deliver a full range sound. To our surprise, they indeed seem to be pretty much full range. It’s like the people at Abacus where able to bend the laws of physics when they designed it.”
